British Eagle K1 Exage LT

Afternoon all,

Wasn’t after another project as I am already halfway through my new winter/daily rider but this came up local and for £30 I couldn’t ignore it.

More than anything the Exage LT group set brought back fond memories of my first proper mountain bike - gt tequesta with the same groupset.

From the pics in the advert it looked in half decent condition too.
Really happy with it, all original apart from tyres, grips and I’m not sure about the saddle as the only info I can find are the same bikes but with Exage 400lx, which I believe are the year before this bike.
Really good paintwork that will come up nice after a t cut and polish, Reynolds 531 frame which doesn’t feel overly heavy.

Just plan to give it a good service and clean, possibly change the handlebars as they are victim of worm rust under the paint.

Finally got round to sorting this out.
Stripped down, re greased everywhere. Replaced wheels with a set of Rigida Lazer rims on Deore LX hubs, an upgrade on the Exage wheelset but same year roughly.
Brifters work great and groupset cleaned up nicely. Just need some new brake pad the ones on it are the originals and are not the best after nearly 30 years!
Replaced the handle bar with an Easton riser bar I had lying around as the original steel one was rusting and weighed a tonne! Only seatpost I had in 26.8 was a scratched Ritchey one so it will do for now. Charge spoon saddle and she was good to go.
Took out on a few mile shakedown and rides fantastic, the ground control 2.25’s just fit between the rear stays, luckily the wheel is true or there would be issues 😂.

Great little pub bike, I really have a soft spot for these bikes which are lower spec, there is just something about them, a kind of charm. Massively underrated by the majority of people. Looked after, bikes from this era will go on forever, but they also look great when retro-modded. Hope you like!

Looks great, I’m rebuilding my dads at the moment, I remember sitting in the back of it on a kids seat going to school 20 odd years ago haha! Have started building it up with better rated deore parts, will do a post once complete!
