breaks????????

[the one and only]

I have some hays breaks on my bike and all they do is
squeak and squeal all the time.
I have had them off and fitted new pads and put some
grease on the back of the pads and also cleaned the disc's
with mentholated spirits.
This stopped it for aprox 500 yds but then it has started
all over once more.
Can someone please help as the sound is doing my
head in :evil:

A weird thing though.- My hope x2 rear makes a hell of a racket, pads arent always the answer because as soon as i get a bit of grit and water on them it clears up.a few days in the dry and its back to shrieking at me

Possibly harmonic resonance :?

and a bit if copperslip on the rear of the pads as you've said
tho i generally find that mtb brakes dont really need the greased pads
brake cleaner on the disc too (vinegar will do a reasonable job)

DO NOT PUT COPASLIP BEHIND YOUR PADS
It's basically a motor compound for car and motorcycle brakes for squealing brakes,but keep in mind that mtb do not reach the temperature car and m/bike pads reach so the slip isnt burnt off.I believe when used with mtb there is a serious risk of it bleeding oil onto the pads.That could prove to be fatal.
The squeal is caused by the pads vibrating so i see a possible solution in possibly placing something,maybe a thin rubber type tape behind the pads, stuck directly on to the back of the pad backing plate :?

probably my dad
do it on motorcycles , cars quads etc , therefore do it on bicycles
some dont need it but i find hayes and avid pads benefit from it
it tends to keep the crap out of the seals on most applications
tho i tend not to do it on the track bikes iv'e had due to the higher temps
involved , helps keep crap out of the pistons on dirt bikes too
