Hi all.

Thought I'd share this one with you.

Purchased at the same time as the Stumpjumper from development_cycle.... I've got this one running as a project at the same time as the Specialized.
Whilst I'm waiting on the outcome of the poll on which way to go on that.... I've started the Dynatech in a bid to get both into Primer in the next couple of weeks.

Intentions for the Odyssey are to go for a catalogue correct build and a straight forward repaint in original colours with reproduction graphics.
There will be a 'twist' though. When I was researching and restoring my Dynatech Endeavour..... The MBi review suggested not going for the Endeavour but instead going for the Odyssey and opting for your own choice of Suspension.
This got me thinking....and when development_cycle offered me this one, naturally it was a yes. I will keep the original fork, but I'm going to go down the route of a Rockshox Mag 21 up front. Purely to see what this would be like.

The 'standard' Odyssey has some noticeable frame differences to it's Endeavour big brother, which shows how custom the top end model was.
The Odyssey has mounts for mudguards and racks despite being the same 2070 tubing as the top end model. On this the mounts have all been deleted including the 'bar' extention to mount the mudguard.
Where parts such as the wishbone end have had the tubes properly closed with nice finishing, the Odyssey makes do with end cap bungs.

I'll add more pictures to show these difference for reference to other Dynatech owners, but in the meantime....here's some start off pictures and the scan of the article that suggests go for this Instead of the Endeavour!

Cheers.

This should be very interesting - especially to a Dynatech owner and appreciator.
I like the way you’re going about this.

Liking the more restrained colour scheme... should look very statesmanlike.

Thanks ibbz. Not as Rare as the Campagnolo equipped Endeavour but should be an interesting project. Like the previous Dynatech resto, most of the parts are there. This one does need a full repaint though. Build thread will detail the step by step progress as always. :D

Cheers Peachy. Not the most Vibrant of the Dynatech colour schemes but should look classy when built up. The Gold Rockshox will hopefully make a nice contrast.
Any one know why they chose to name the 1991 product line up after space craft?

Small progress.
Been using the colour match system we have to get the paints mixed up for another home paint. The Dark grey is VAG, the Silver is Ford. By picking mainstream manufacturers colour matches, it's easier to find these colours on eBay.
The best match for the Silver was actually a Lamborghini colour....but I can imagine a colour matched rattle can for that being $$$!! I doubt they even do rattle cans to match your Aventador!

Here's a few pics.

Cheers.

Re:

Pics to record the graphic placement of the decals before the paint gets stripped this weekend.

The Dynatech and Raleigh special product decals are readily available on eBay. The Odyssey one isn't however, so a tracing has been taken before it disappears for good with paint stripper.

More updates to come.

Cheers.

Can I leave a pic of my long gone Voyager here for comparison?

I'll delete if no

Just checking.... did you compare the colour swatches outside in some sunlight? ‘Cause that’s where you going to get judged!

No problems LGF. In fact, I reckon it would be useful to show the 1991 line up in pictures for reference. I've shamelessly borrowed the pics from here. Hope the owners don't mind. ;)

Sentinel
Encounter
Mission
Odyssey
Voyager
Endeavour

The Sentinel show here doesn't feature the wishbone seatstay but the same format as the Diablo from the following year. I thought this might be due to a warranty replacement in the same colour scheme but interestingly, the group test of the '91 Sentinel in MBUK also features the same seatstay arrangement. :?
