Back in 1995 when Shimano was sponsoring a series of youth races at all the NORBA/Grundig races GT thought it was appropriate to do a kid sized bike with something other than the standard low price Shimano Tourney spec bikes that most lines offered. They added 20" wheel and 24" wheel Zaskar Frame build kits. I picked this one up NOS from a dealer in Colorado. Build is anatomically correct with 155mm cranks, smaller brake levers and easier reach shifters. We have a 20" wheel version with even hotter spec.

One of the first 700C Mountain Bikes (after the Gary Fisher Sphinx), equipped originally with Panaracer Smoke 700x42C


I think this bike won't be everybody's darling, because of my conversion to a gravel bar and 1x10 speed.
So posting this rather to have a more broad choice for November...
Personally, i do like this Bike a lot. It immediately turned to the most used one, because it's great for gravel roads (as you can see at the dusty pictures), it's clearly faster then my regular 26" mostly classic MTBs but also rides pretty comfortable, also at longer distance trips.
I also do like the classic style and have used as much as possible old stuff (e.g. a XT II 735 rear mech, which copes also with a 11-36 10speed cassette).

My son is going to need one of these in a few years. I keep looking for one that doesn't have a cracked headtube. Such a great bike.

I never realized how many companies made 24 inch wheel bikes back in the day.

But higher quality sub 30 lb 24" bikes were few and far between. Most were budget spec $2349-300 Tourney thumb shifter spec with Steel chainring cranks., Taiwan brakes and levers, all black heavy rubber

I'll chuck in this old Cannondale SM700 with 24" wheels, Nitto and Deerhead. It's been knocking around Retrobike a good few years now. Back in 1988 Canonndale offered 2 24" wheels on their smallest 16" frames, as well as the odd ball 26"x24" SM600.

3 Cannondale in 24x26", and a Fat Chance. But that month, I prefer to show my 86 Hanebrink SE Shocker with it's 24" wheel
