Bit of advice if poss

Hi all. I'm lacking in retro knowledge! In the middle of building up an Ellsworth ID and I have no idea at all the difference between the older Hope brakes. Can anyone recommend what I should look out for - Hope mono mini / XC4 / Four pot / c2 / Hayes / Shimano? .... have gathered most bits for the build but what would you do for suitable brakes (and disks!). Any advice greatly appreciated.
