Bikes that got you started in Mountain Biking.

My first MTB was a Giant Escaper.. newly bought in 1990.
Half a year later I sold it and got myself a Specialized Rockhopper Comp 1990 upgraded tot completely Shimano XT and with a Tangé Switchblade..
A year later it became more serious and bought the Bridgestone MB1 frame of a friend (a new warranty frame) with a Ritchey fork.... at that time the weightweenie-madness hit me... so...
In 1995 I bought my custom made Ibis Mojo and build it into a 8.2kg (a bit over 18pounds) racing machine..

...I lost the bicycle-passion for a couple of years... and than... there was that 'stupid' site (RetroBike.co.uk or something.... ;) ) that freshened the old passion again... My wallet is still pissed at that site... and I still like it !! :D

(the Giant in the pic is not mine, but the same color and size as I had.. still a nice bike to see... though it weight in a close to 853kg)

first ever mtb was an emmelle santana around 1988,like most peoples 1st bikes it was stolen about 6 months after the xmas i got it :(

Apollo Avalanche. That had a triple triangle frame. More of a BSO but the principle and free feeling of riding across varied ground struck me on that bike when I was 14. A year later changed it to a Proflex 550 and was eyeing my school mates GT Zaskar enviously - that triple triangle frame again :)

1989 I think, Carrerra Krakatoa (not sure that's the right spelling) It was black with yellow specks. To be fair it was utterly crap, although I took up repairing and rebuilding my own bikes as a result and noved on to a better bike soon after

Raleigh mustang here

Snap! :D

I first started mountain biking back in 1989 on a Raleigh Mustang (the pinky coloured one) and, although looking back it was a heavy beast with cheap crappy components, it got me hooked and was the first in a long line of gone but not forgotten bikes.

was a Raleigh Grifter for me first bike i had with gears and took off road on the farm tracks where i lived at the time but the first actual mtb was a black and white Mustang 15 speed i went all over on that thing and tbh at the time i loved it untill i got a 1989 Giant Sierra with Mountain LX on

My first was a Saracen Eiger Comp ; 1990 and a Halfords-only bike I think ; very fetching mauve colour ; oversize Tange tubing 500LX and an all-up weight of nearly 30 tons.
