A friend and I do a shortest and longest day charity ride, and this year we are ‘chasing the sun’ by doing the c2c in a day. We do this with a big ‘top gear’ style reveal of our chosen velo, based on some arbitrary made up rules. The bike gets auctioned afterwards. I’ve ridden things like a Raleigh 20, a Raleigh 16, and an unadvisedly tiny cx bike. We’ve raised a few thousand over the years - this year we’ll be doing it for the stroke association as my dad has very recently suffered from a stroke.
As a big fan of classic bikes (owner of, for example, a ‘78 Raleigh ti, a ‘79 rourke, an early fiorelli tubed Coppi as well as some modetnish steel), I think this is a good opportunity to show that you don’t need a 7.5kg carbon aero bike with discs you knock out a long ride.
So, I’m thinking, has anyone got something interesting that they’d part with? Total budget is £100 I was thinking:
- a classic tourer
- a cafe racer
I’d be happy with a project.
