Best place to find rare bikes and bargains for me has always been bike jumbles. In France there is the Bourse Velo, which are national events where everyone and anyone brings a bike or parts to flog. It's a veritable feeding frenzy:

Start off with my favourite the bike jumble at Eroica, Chianti. I've been every other year since 2012, bar one. Never came back empty handed!
