Best mudguards for a steel frame road bike with no eyelets?

Hello everyone,

I am renovating a nice old lugged steel Holdsworth road frame for use as a commuter bike but it has no eyelets on the front or rear droputs for attaching mudguards.

Has anyone tried out mudguards that would fit a frame like this and if so are there any brands or models that are particularly good? Ideally I'd like black shiny plastic that fit the wheel quite closely (not ones that stick out like on a motocross bike)!

Thanks!

I have both Crudguards and Raceblades - the Cruds have better coverage but you need about 5mm clearance between the top of the tyre and the brake caliper.

There's 2 separate things; is there enough clearance for the mudguards, and how to mount them.

If you have enough clearance, then p clips will work just as well as eyelets, although it's more fiddly when you fit them. In which case go for proper mudguards like SKS, ie not clip on bodges.
