ok so i realise this might be a little too far o/t but does anyone care enough about the low end to have a favourite bassist? i sure as hell do :D :D :D several infact! heres my top 5...

Stuart Zender
Charlie Haden
Darryl Jones
Mark King
John Deacon

i know lists are boring but hey its 01:38 and i'm bored and a little peeesed

A few from me then, in no particular order -

Larry Graham
Charlie Haden
Danny Thompson
Stanley Clarke
Tony Levin
Pino Palladino
Anthony Jackson
Marcus Miller
Walter Becker (especially his work on "Kamakiriad" - his tone from that Sadowsky is to die for  ...)
Gail Anne Dorsey

That'll do for now, I'm sure.

Yep - Bootsy Collins could well have been on my list (especially if I had a pic with his "Star" bass ) , but I couldn't name everyone - the list would be endless

A few more that I should mention though :-

Mike Mills (for his lyrical yet understated style)
Mark Egan (listen to his work with Joan Osborne, Gil Evans etc, etc)
Jimmy Lea (Slade). Great songwriter and a very, very underestimated bassist. Even his playing on "Merry Christmas" is great  and think what he must have earned in royalties from writing that.
Chuck Rainey - for his work with just about everyone.
Lee Sklar - as above...... :)

That's it :!: - although I could go on and on........

Glad to hear no-one mentioned Gordon Sumner  :)

He's actually a far better than average bass player and has a "feel" all of his own - I don't know why so many people seem to dismiss him.
