Hi all, I have been looking to do some vintage restoration, and feeling a bit vintage myself. Been checking out Barracuda's, which I find very appealing, having some personal history in Durango. My one reservation comes from pictures. How is the rear brake cable routed through the tiny eyelet on the seat tube? Any descriptions and pictures would be helpful.

I have a 98 Cudacat that has since been stripped down awaiting a paint job.. far too small for me but the better half fancies it.
I think we have settled on white and blue.





Mark (90% on the name) has a barracuda website http://www.barracudabicycles.com/ and I notice his forum has gone live since I last looked.. can't imagine you'll find a better source of info that that!

It depends if you want to run cantis or Vs. Cantis you just run the (unhoused) cable straight through the loop and into the cable hanger of your cantis.

1995 Barracudas and earlier are made to run cantilever brakes. You can run v-brakes, but I believe you have to swap the front derailleur and rear brake cables between those cable stops near the seatpost, then it will work without any modifications to the frame.

It depends if you want to run cantis or Vs. Cantis you just run the (unhoused) cable straight through the loop and into the cable hanger of your cantis.

Is that the way they came from Barracuda? It seems that besides putting a kink in the cable, it would only be a matter of time before the cable was cutting into the frame. From my limited observations, this would have to be considered a design flaw.

Yes, the cable itself was supposed to rub on the inside of the "noodle" there. Yes, it would produce friction and carve away metal if not lubed.

Has anyone remedied this shortcoming?I can't imagine rebuilding one of these bikes without correcting the problem.

Cut open a piece of outer and run a piece of the plastic inner part through the noodle. I can't find the pic of my old A2X that showed it, but have a pic of the same thing I did for the metal derailleur cable guides on my Bottecchia as an example.
