Dirt Disciple
......stripped the threads whilst tightening the cable :(

Any suggestions on how to make a repair on this 960? I was thinking of using some of that metal putty to 'remake' the threads any thoughts or should this be heading to the bike shop in the sky?

I don't know the mech but some of these dual-pull can have the cable rocker bit removed (for want of a better name) and another put in it's place. Possibly a circlip holding it on.
Helicoils are the other thing or a longer bolt with a nut or ...

Hmmmm, might try that. Can you get helicoils that small?

Unfortunately they are all press fitted so you can't can't just remove the circlips like on say a Deore and whack a new cable puller on.

Tapping a larger thread would be the only safe reliable option.

If seen second hand XTR M960's go for £14 or so on ebay so that might be the trauma free option.

How do you tap a new thread easily?

xtr threads

hi mine did this so i pulled the old helicoil out of the mech i.e M4 threaded coil and it was already tapped for the next size up bolt (what the heli coil wound into) i.e M5 i no its not orig but has been working for 2plus years ;) p.s sizes are for example not true sizes
