Apocalypto tip find - the coronabeagle

Following a good poke at the scabs I’m pleased to report that the frame’s sound under the grot. Gonna touch in the scabs with black Hammerite (or something) and rebuild it out of shed bits...will see if I can shave a pound or two off by upgrading wheels, handlebars, etc... and if it rides better than expected then MAYBE I’ll get the frame powder coated at a later date...

Re:

Definitely build this! They're good quality frames dude..

As I was brought up in North Lincs there were a few of these in the bike sheds at school, along with other cycles under the Brigg/Falcon banner (Claud Butler, Townsend, Emmelle etc). I seem to recall there were 501 or 531 versions higher up the line. Frames did feel quite light at the time with very thin road bike like stays, parts were a bit heavy to keep at a price point I guess.

I'll keep an eye on this one :D

Re:

Frame now fully restored to mint condition.

(I scraped off the flaky paint and drenched it in Kurust.)

That’s not Kurdistan. It should be blue/black.

Thick sliced warburtons and 8 Asda shades quilted £5.20.

Ner.

I think maybe mine was too...

It’s blacker on the rustier bits. Hard to tell from the photo, they blend in with the paint. Went nice and blue when it went on. All good. I might not bother with a top coat, thinking just keep it well oiled.

I’ve been panic buying bike parts so I can finish builds in lockdown. I don’t think I’m the only one.
