In the late 80s and early 90s there was "another" MTB magazine (besides MBUK). It was called Mountain Biker, or Mountain Biker International as I recall.
It had the most bizarre cartoon in it called Zack Abely, but no amount of googling confirms whether this was ever real or if it's just a vivid and disturbing hallucinatory memory.
It wasn't a comedy thing, it was a three-panel serial, continued in each issue, about the adventures of some sort of MTB explorer who wore wrap-around shades and a bunch-o-nanas helmet. In one he found the bones of his mate at the bottom of a canyon, still in his helmet, but I never found out what happened after that.
I hope someone can tell me anything about this strip, as my curiosity and boyhood memories are gnawing at me!
