Anyone bought a Dogs Bolx recently (new)

Have a word with the chap in Freeborn, I forget his name. He's not a fan of the new era bikes. He reckons they're not the same, Chas is building them for modern suspension discs etc but the design has not evolved to keep pace with the components that get nailed on. Apparently one of the bike mags (blokey in the shop will tell you which as I can't remember) tested one and had to give it back without writing about it as they didn't want to give a classic such a panning They were brilliant when they were a contemporary bike running contemporary suspension & components and I would love to have one built for me with non sus geometry, rigid fork etc.

What's happened with the THORN?

Hmm - yeah I can see what you're saying, but the whole point of custom is that you spec the geometry. Just giving a hand built frame to a journo and expecting them to rate it, unless it was built for them, is a bit wooly IMO, especially as Roberts don't have stock frames or geometry. Unless you really know what you want, I can see that you would do better to get something off the peg, so to speak, from a manufacturer. I would base it around my most ridden bike, as a basic starting point, but add some tweaks to get it spot on for me - I've pretty much got the geometry nailed, as to how I think it will suit me.

Who ever spec'd this geometry, knew exactly what they wanted. Looks very modern with it's sloping top tube

Useful comments though, all goes into the melting pot!

(surprised you use that place)

Still waiting on the Thorn repair, I'll put up a pic on my original thread when I get it back.

:)

Picked up a 110BCD CNC Dangerboy bash guard in there for a tenner :D

They appreciate retro stuff even if they don't really sell it, they'll have a rummage for useful bits as well and sometimes come up trumps.

Looking forward to hearing the latest update on the Thorn. (And going for a ride too, I've had my head in the books for too long and it's driving me crazy!)

Chas just built me a bike. Not technically a Dogs, although that's what i thought I wanted. But speaking to him, he's designed me a frame to do exactly what I want. Handle like a MTB, go like a road bike on my commute. And it's awesome. Best bike I've ever ridden by a long way. Has made me get rid of most of my other bikes as I've realised I won't ride them again.

Took him bloody ages mind....

Put thumbies etc on it though. Can't have anything too modern. Even if the frame was built this year.

Cool! I'd love to see some close up pics of that please, especially the frame detail. PM me if you prefer - thanks.

I don't mind it taking ages, spread the cost shock, so to speak. What we talking about 6 months.........?

Ibf - sure, let me know what suits.

Pete

Doing something similar with a new mountain goat frame.

Having it built with a few tweaks in the size etc and suspension corrected for 100mm forks.

Groupset is gonna be a mix of nos 952 xtr, race face cranks and hope discs plus lots of blue anno so it should have a nice retro feel to it ;)

Really looking forward to building it but seem to of been waiting forever :(

final bump for any Roberts owners out there..

anyone know why this thread has ''moved'' at the beginiing now?

Hi, im new to the forum. Just uploaded pics of my yeti ultimate that I had since was a kid.

I bought a dogs bolx last year to replace the yeti as the "useable" bike and have been very happy with it. I'll Try and post some pics over the next few days. Let me know if you have any specific questions on the build
