Re:
I had really bad bother with mine throughout my mid to late twenties.
Saw three doctors, who were less than useless; one said is was down to the fact that human beings shouldn't walk on two legs, one said it would go away, one said go to thhe library and get a book about backs. All said ibuprofen.
Tried several physios, NHS and private. Private physio actually sent me home to lie in bed for a week on the first visit without charging me, as the swelling was too bad to work with.
They did massage, stretches, acupuncture etc. Relieved the pain for about an hour at a time. All said ibuprofen was the worst thing to do, as it masks the pain so your are likely to cause more damage.
After about five years of varying levels of bother with it a mate found me at work locked rigid in agony and introduced to me a chiropractor buddy of his.
This chap came round to where I worked on my lunch break and had a bit of a feel of my head down to my toes. From just touching different bits of me (nothing kinky) he could tell me all sorts of things like what position I slept in, which foot I use to step off kerbs and which side of my mouth I chew gum.
Then told me to lie down while he straightened my skeleton. After about half an hour of extremely gentle manipulation of every joint in my body he told me to stand up and see how that was.It was as though my whole skeleton had been lubricated. No pain, increased flexibility, easier movement.
Following his advice on things ranging from start walking down stairs on a different foot to normal from time to time, to chew your food on the other side of your mouth occasionally, I have not had
any bother with my back for about ten years.
This guy was a chiropractor of the "McTimmoney method" and worked absolute miracles on me.
He explained in mechanical terms what was essentially a mechanical problem, and how to prevent it from happening again. I cannot recommend it highly enough.
