Any information on the late eighties Mountain LX groupset?

As per title: does anyone know more about this groupset? Where in the Shimano hierarchy was it situated? Was it comparable with later Deore LX?

Thanks
Wim

I will add more though ;-) I just hit reply by accident.

Mountain LX is part of the Exage group, So form the Exage 300/400/500LX of the early 90s, later to become Acera/Alivio* etc by the mid 90s.
(I always forget which is which at this modern era naming)
With 70/100/200 GS taking up the bottom slots as the entry level atb/mtb groupset, a step above SIS.

Mountain LX is directly under the Deore groupset of XT(II) & Deore (II)

And to add a bit more, but please check, Mountain LX had the M4xx numbering, which places it as the 400LX level that it morphed into.

Deote LX that was introduced had the M5xx series level.

Again Thanks. Maybe one thing that is different in the catalogue (checked it already  ): Mountain LX seems to be situated between Deore and Exage (so not apart of the Exage). Exage contained Exage Mountain, E. Trail and E. Country. These came with 6 speed, LX and higher with 7.

Thanks again.

But Exage or Deore or somewhere in between, I know now it's a mid-range groupset worth keeping.

Worth keeping, it's the top of the Exage range (even the Deore higher end focused catalogue has it under Exage groupsets series.)

Interesting it they used LX, which later was used in the full Exage naming, but did provide the bed for the new Deore LX slot that was created. Which I guess meant Deore II looked odd so renamed the DX.

It should be noted many components were shared between levels in a range.
And at that time it was the third from top groupset still. :)

Now I only need a frame to put it on. :) I have a 1989 Olmo "50 th Anniversary" (Columbus Max tubing) and a 1989 Stumpjumper Team but these deserve an XT.
