Answer Manitou System FS

I'm selling my beloved '92 System FS.

I'd be chuffed to get £400 but feel free to make me an offer below this as it's got to go. it's just been put on ebay too though so I won't be accepting any really low offers just yet.

First, the bad news... I've ridden this bike to & from work, 10 miles each way (all on roads), 3 times a week for the last year, and it's never missed a beat. BUT when I was cleaning it up for this sale, I've noticed a crack in the frame, underneath the bottom bracket - this can be seen in a couple of the photos. I've no idea whether the crack is very recent, or has been there since I bought it. The top tube also has a couple of small cracks, visible in 2 pics; I don't believe these affect the frame as they've been there since I bought the bike & they've never grown. There are no cracks in the headtube. This bike is now 18 years old & has had a long & fun life. In general I think it's in great condition for its age, but the suspension only moves a couple of millimetres nowadays.

Note: the bike doesn't come with a saddle. (Forgive my lack of terminology) - the pin that holds all the gear together at the top of the seat tube (to fit the saddle) snapped recently, I'm going to a bike shop tomorrow to try to get a replacement. I'll update the ad as/when I get a replacement. The seatpost is 1 1/4" (16.5" long)

A couple of details:

* Frame: 1992 Answer Manitou System FS; aluminium; rear suspension
* measurements:
centre BB to center top tube: 37cm
centre BB to top of seat tube: 43cm
centre to centre top tube: 54cm
I'm just under 5'10" & it fits me perfectly, with room to move the saddle up or down a few inches

* Forks: Answer Manitou 3
* Brakes: Red ACOR; red Kooka levers
* Levers: Suntour XC Pro top-mounted
* Stem: original Answer Manitou CNC stem
* Headset: Ringle
* Bars: Ritchey; barends: X-Lite
* Wheels: nothing special but new in the last 9 months; Mach 1 rims on Deore hubs

Due to the age of this bike, and the small cracks, I can't guarantee it's got many more miles left in it - I genuinely have no idea if it'll still be fine for years, or if it's time to retire the bike & just admire its beauty & build quality. I would love to keep it as a piece of history but have to make room & money to pay for the new bike.

Local pickup from London, N11, preferred, but I'll deliver it within 10 miles for free, or within 30 miles for the cost of petrol.

Any questions, let me know.

cheers, Rob

Lovely ,
looks like the suspension has bottomed out, it looks like a lowrider :LOL:

Free bump, good luck with the sale bud :cool:

£20 for the frame as a wall hanger?

Part it out and you'll hit £400 with relative ease, the kooka bits should generate some interest but I don't think it's a salvagable frame

If and when the new owner resurrects, I have clamps for these posts on the shelf, so tap me if you need one.#
Good wall art potential :)

cheers; really trying to avoid splitting it up but if I get no offers anywhere near £300 i'll have to split it (will probably end up keeping the frame if that happens!)

I'd be glad to see it gone for £300, though I appreciate that's still quite high given the cracks. ebay, as usual, isn't helping my guide price much, got loads of watchers but no real bids (apart from some nutter who can't speak much english but insists he 'wants to buy it for cash right now')

If it wasn't so badly cracked in multiple places it would be worth £300 easy... I stand by my part it out offer..
