Just a thought on the exotic stuff that goes for peanuts on ebay, surely a seller who knows what they are selling knows the stuff might go for far less than it's worth, perhaps the seller has encountered it before, so why would someone sell something like that knowing they may very well be out of pocket so to speak as opposed to selling to someone who really wants the item other than ebay speculators ?

Could it be the seller is a speculator and does not know what they are selling, or could it be the seller is a thief or a fence for a thief ?

I have a full set of early twentieth century ships running lights, built for but never fitted to a sailing ship I believe, people tell me to sell them on ebay, because full sets of the same make and type have in the past gone for over a grand, but it is a buyer's market and things on ebay don't always go according to plan and I have a valuers estimate to consider therefore no way will the items go on ebay, I will wait and sell them to the correct market, when it is ia find it, where I hope to obtain a fair price not a throw away price. Similarly, I would expect a seller of bicycle exotica to approach the correct market in an attempt to sell, not a general market where things can and often do go disasterously wrong, which kind of makes me wonder about the seller, are they looking for a fair price for their cast offs, or are they looking for any amount as a sale is a sale no matter what it is, in which case was the item theirs to sell in the first place.

This was originally a full bike for sale from someone else - I bid just over £100, but it went for just under £150.

The seller seems to know what they have, since they sell plenty of bike parts and also have listed other parts that were on the bike (Middleburn cranks, mavic etc) so I assume they are practiced in buying complete bikes and selling the parts to make a profit.

Looks like they'll still make a profit overall, so don't worry about them!

It's a badly damaged and badly repaired frame with poor finish and loads of corrosion. Sure it's a solid frame and good for a hack but really its only worth it for the forks.

The issue is that in our closed little world we often over-value things when a little bit of leg work on eBay can come up with loads of these cheap frames sold by people who couldn't care less for retro and probably don't even know of such a thing. To most people old bikes are just old bikes

Not sure why the seller could suspected of being a fence or a thief-seems to accurately describe it and sells it on eBay where 90% of old bikes stuff is sold. This is certainly not 'exotica' in any shape, just a solid mid-ranger so the seller seems to have got the money it deserved.
