They are dyed somehow.... I spoked the wheels so the spokes don't touch each other when crossing, but as they get older, the color comes off at some places...

....anyway... the look nice... don't think it's anything special though...

You can't anodise steel, but I have a finish that looks similar on some rotor bolts I bought. No idea what it is though!
