Angleset in a ‘99 Zaskar

I’ve just picked up a 1999 Zaskar and am looking at dropping in an angle adjust headset to slacken the front out a bit from the stock 70.5 degrees. My go-to mechanic is a little cautious as that’ll increase the forces on the frame, and he’s worried it could crack it at the head tube.

Has anyone here done this on a similar era bike, and how did it go? Ultimately also wondering about a longer fork (currently has Marzocchi Superfly Z2s at 80mm), and possibly dropping in a 27.5” wheel to make a mini-mullet.

Is this doomed to fail or the way to ultimate restomod radness?

I installed a 1.5 degree angleset on a 2000 Bianchi hardtail and also went to a 120mm fork (from 100mm). Bike is ridden on fairly smooth trails and no air time but I've had no problems.
