An outer chainring for an XT m739

£30 sounds better
Madison are hunting me one down :D ,i'll find out from them after Xmas
But we'll see if they find one and how much they want
And i've also decided to buy the 5 arm adapter [from another member] so if i cant find the 4 arm replacement at least i can fit regular rings

Thanks Fluffy, though i prefer the look of the 5 arm, the 4 arm adapter looks pants :x ,the original outer with 4 arms look really nice ,its a shame it didnt take off, it makes for a good looking crank

I think the 4 arm was engineering over practicality strong, stiff, light but lacks the most important part for Sub-XTR components ease of use, cost and compatibility of components, though on my search it seems to be the forerunner to todays modern 4 compact drive setup. (the BCD 4 arm is optimised for the compact rings)

No problem looking for things, keeps me sane and updates my knowledge past my M900 era brain ;)

dyna-ti; Let me know if you don't have any luck with Shimano, and you still fancy the 4 arms. I think I've still got the middle and inner to go with the outer too.

Must admit ,the four arm looks the nicer crank pity the outer ring decision to include the spider was one of shimanos bad moves, only lasted a year
I wonder why
I'll get back to you in a few days Paul

Sorry for digging this up. But can someone tell me what size chainrings the XT cranks with the 5 arm spider require?

thanks.

739's ? (there are many models)
But they are Compact Drive 94/58

(ill add to this old thread*, there is a 4 arm adaptor like the 5 arm, you can also get. It's the STX-RC one of this era MC-40)

*I had only been a member for a few months
