Re:

stripped down and gave a wash, it appears the left hand pedal arm inner taper is knackered, and will need replacing, other than that all parts are in servicable condition, tyres are knackered, so any clue as to were to go to get the brown walled tyres from? or as it will be my road bike, should i just get a set of bright coloured slicks

Re:

also any way of getting off the surface rust with out ruining its current paint work?

You could try giving the frame a going over with some T-Cut, but I doubt it'll make a huge improvement. Other than that, re-paint, or because the blend is hidden by the decals, you could have it powder coated, which is tougher than "wet paint" and get some reproduction decals.

Re:

Nice!

You could just put up with the patina, scrub this, touch up that or, re paint. I did a re-do of the same year bike.

Powdercoat was an easy choice for me. Most coaters can only do a blend in and out of the two colours, like this....

But the finish is tough. The decals were sourced by resident decal master gil_m, a member on here and has many decals on file, including yours! The benefit is that the decals for top and downtube are 'wrap', so the colour change is ultimately hidden.

you end up with this....

S'all right innit!

Good luck with whatever you do.

Re:

LSN powdercoating, castleford, west yorks.

Same place I got my frame done, just one colour though, for £40.00. How much was the two colour fade?

To swadlinboi, if you want to get hold of LSN, phone them, I don't think they check their E-mails very often. I was pleased with the job though, they masked all the bolt holes, canti bosses etc. and it was done in a week.
