Aero rims and valve nuts

A road bike conundrum really but should I still use the nut to hold the valve (inner tube) in place or let it roam free?

Off the bike when I pull it down from the rack or move it with any purpose, the valve seems to rattle against the rim. As the rim is aero, the standard nut will obviously sit proud on the rim and look rubbish, though it will stop the rattle.

Should I use the nut? Is there an alternative for aero rims?

Never use them, on any rims.

If the rattle annoys you, take a 2-3 inch strip of electrical tape, pierce the middle of it with the valve and run it down the rim on either side. If you see what I mean.

I get you. Was wondering if there was a rubber gromit or something though?

Yeah, some rims have a little rubber or plastic grommet type thing that you can take out to fit schraeder valves tubes or leave in and fit Presta valve tubes.
I last saw the ones from my modern Mavic rims somewhere on the floor of the man-cave

I don't see what's wrong with using the little locking collar on ptesta valves, they weigh all of a gram each, and if it stops the rattling then great,?
Thinking about it I do use them on my mtb's if they have ptests valves, but never on a road bike.... weird, maybe the road rims were only drilled for the smaller presta valve...

Incidentally, and linked to your thread about bolts, places like Toronto Cycles do all kinds of anodized presta valve lockrings as well as lots of alloy and Ti bolts. I bought a load of purple valve caps and bolts and stuff last year.

Cheers for the input. Might have something like that already. Didn't think about using frame protectors but worth a go.

They probably won't rattle when riding but it's just one of those annoying little things that keeps me awake at night.

That's what my other half says to me all the time!

No idea what it means though ....
