Adventures of the GT Zaskar, and the V-brake

Hi!

Can somebody tell me, the 1996 Zaskar is handle the V-brake, or just the canti?
I see the drops on it, but what is the distance between them?
I've got a '96 Kettler, there the distance is 93mm, and my Bianchi's 80mm. The Kettler is too wide, it cannot strain enough...I can fix it, but not perfect.
Of course, I mean the rear brake. :)

Thanks!

Re:

If you are asking can you run v brakes on a 96 zaskar, then yes you should be able to. I run them on my 96 xizang no worries. May have to re arrange the spacers to make it work though

Thanks!

I thought the same from my Kettler from '96 too, but I should use extra spacers next to the big one(almost one same size), if I want better performance...maybe I will try, what can happen... :p

When I put v-brakes on my zaska re-issue (so not exactly the same, but close enough) they wouldn't fit. These v brakes had been on a few bikes (Diamond back Axis, Manitou, Yeti ARC), couldn't figure out why, they were just too close to the rim. Took ages to figure out that the triple triangle is much narrower and you just need to move the spacers around to make that pads sit farther out, then when i moved them to the xizang they just word straight off... Of course thats what i found, it will hopefully help you.

I run a V-Brake on the rear of my '93 Zaskar...iirc it was a bit fiddly to setup to start with..

Got a little spacer to keep the cable nice and snug

Just came across this thread.
Trying to work out how to fit the rear V and here it is! Retro Guru's ferrule (lots like a front brake lever part) is just what I was mentally trying to envisage.
Thanks for the hint ;)
