A pic from todays ride, it is well over 10 years since i last climed this, was quite funny today, i had already done 30 miles by the time i got to the bottom, when 3 guys on their 5k super bikes when past me and comented on how old my bike looked. I took great pleasure telling the first 2 that its the engine thar does the work  . An the third wasnt to happy when i went past in the saddle as he was all over the road out of the saddle.

Nice ride isn't it DC :) Went there earlier this year with my nephew. I chugged like a broken steam train, but got up it in the end on my 1984 Faggin.

This engine wasn't up for it on the day, but a second go will see me take it much easier now I know how it pans out. Gotta love that last bend sign posted as 20degree, but actually feels like a downhill ???.

Love the bike by the way. Later my friend yours Laz.

Its 30 something years since I first rode my Carlton Cobra up and over the Horseshoe pass. Is that the Ponderosa cafe in the background?

I have never cycled it, but did intend to go via Corwen from the Wirral on my fixed. I never did it. I wish I had attempted it though. Fortunately my Parents have a Static near the town itself which is the only reason I would try that route! I would certainly need to recuperate.

Lovely place though. Been countless times, even crashed my motorcycle there once whilst being a little too ambitious.

That is a lovely looking bike btw. I had a similar comment once whilst going round Llandegla when I took a breather at the top of a climb. The other cyclists there looked at my old voodoo and claimed that the reason for my breathlessness was the 'Old heavy bike, you need a lighter one mate' before I pointed out the fact it was single speed....:)

People are far too focused on Aluminium/carbon and technology. Trying to lose a kilo here and there.

Long live retro steel!

btw - that Saddle, I like. I think I may get rid of the Rolls and try similar.

Good job    your saddle looks a bit modern though   ;)

Saddle is modern and comforable, although i do have a original white regal with polished rivets.

For those who are intrested here is a screen grab of the route 50 miles 5000 ft of clmbing. Used it as a training ride for the Cymru Etape 100 mile 6000 ft climbing.

That's an 'interesting' route. Not a lot of flat there! Did you do it clockwise or anti-clockwise? Just as hard (if not harder!) than the 'Shoe' is going over Eglwyseg and Minera from the Llangollen direction, especially the climb after the ford.

Happy memories from years ago ;)

Good effort, what's the steepest bits like? I'm off to Wales weekend after next (First time across the border for me funnily!) but it's a good 100 miles further North, might give this a bash if it aint too hard?

Was staying with friends just outside Chamonix in the Alps end of June & did Col des la Forclaz and Col De Montets (twice) on an out and back with similar ascent/distance (4875ft/44miles) but there's not a hope in hell that I could have done my ride on your gearing though av. speed as a comprison is not much diff :?

Bloody larvly when you can nip past the weight weenies aint it

I road it clockwise, bit of a, the lowest gear i have is 42-21.

Good grief! I'd have needed several teeth more on the back and several fewer on the front!
