99p fixed price by mistake bike parts going recently

Seen quite a few of these recently on ebay with free postage! Decent brand new 9 speed/10 speed components going for pennies. Feel for sellers when this happens and hopefully the buyers don't hold them to it under the current circumstances of posting not being easy and just the principle of doing the right thing.

What's the general opinion on when this happens - grab it while you can and hope the seller eats the cost and a lesson learnt or leave it well alone as it's obviously a mistake and message the seller of their mistake. I don't like seeing people taking advantage of others mistakes.

I remember years ago I accidentally sent an item to the wrong address, someone I had previously sold a part to. They messaged me and asked for the correct address to send the part on to and not to worry about it postage costs etc. Some nice karma to redress the balance of good intentions.

Re:

Tough one as everyone likes a bargain.

I've posted on things for free when mistakes like the one you've mention happen. It's easily done, I've dome it myself. Maybe it was me in your case, who knows?

Where do you draw the line? I've listed stuff on Ebay that's gone for peanuts and worth a lot more, but that's the risk of an auction. I just took it on the chin, and thought at least it gets a good home and reduces the mound of bits I have laying around. I'd rather that, than what happens more than I'd like, is a buyer doesnt pay. Ebay doesnt let you leave negative feedback for a buyer, even when this happens. No idea why, baffles me.

Back to the line drawn. Often people dont know the value of things and sell things with a low bin. Do you buy it, then pay them more as you know the true value of what they are selling?

The thing that gets my goat though is selling on here to what you think are like minded folk. Most, and I do mean most, are just into bikes and building them, I sell stuff on here and price with that in mind. Occasionally I see the parts I've sold on here almost instantly on Ebay marked up hugely, sometimes even using my pics from the sale thread. That p*sees me off no end as I'd like to think as a community we all help feed our hobby/obsession and some take advantage of this nature.

If it's dead stock I think some will just post out. ishaw I like your points especially the one where a buy it now is fantastic value for say a New old stock part at a "Used" price as I think we would all go ahead and buy said part.

Edit: Said bargain parts I saw listed for 99p posted have been relisted by the original seller so no obligation if this mistake happens most of the time.
