97’ Kona Hei Hei - Completed build

Moving forward from years 1992-3 to 97. Some would call this the dark side

Photos show how it was obtained, last Winter, but since then it's been put out of it's misery, stripped dow, and ready for some love with a total makeover. Decals in good condition and frame has come up well.

New Stratch N Sniff tires already sourced..stay tuned.

nice, thats a long headtube! i think the high stem adds to the high front end look.

There is also a lot of red going on there

I know! I can imagine the previous owner wheeling on down the sidewalk with it!

Plan is for as-would-be factory fit controltech stem with a pair of Z2s I’ve bought.

Now trying to find a long steerer tube for it.

One ask - please don't bother with the S&S tyres. They are terrible in every way; poor design, too narrow and the rubber compound hasn't aged well. The bike deserves boots that work!

Forks finally arrived. These came from the States in the end. Apparently it had an 80mm travel kit installed which didn’t effect standheight. Will be interesting to see how it comes together.

Also got some heavier weight springs which should be good.
