Sorry to be a buzzkill, but that's a pretty heavy frame as a the foundation of a sub-20 lb bike.

My old Epic Ultimate was 1300g and this complete bike with rigid DD fork was still 21lb.

Yeah, Like I said, I was told it'd be optimistic! Doesn't bother me really, I just like to have an idea of where I'm going with it really.

Thanks. Just a suggestion, but you can save up a massive amount of weight in your wheel and tire choice. Almost a pound per wheel if you spend for it.

I've got the wheels already...

Haven't weighed the front yet, but the rear is around 950g. It's not an massive budget TBH, so I'll be a bit limited. I'm contemplating getting them re-built with DB spokes and Alloy nipples, but it's added £££.

I wish I'd never mentioned the 20lb idea!

Yeah, I think you're headed for more like 23lb.

Take a look at what other people have done with 20lb hardtails and set some new goals.

Like I said in my first post:

The aim is to see how light I can get a front sus early 90s bike, without going crazy or resorting to drillium.

I casually mentioned the 20lb thing in another thread a while back, and knew from the start that I wouldn't make it.

23lb would be nice - still the lightest bike i've ever owned by a WIDE margin!

It´s not that difficult to get the Trek down to 20lb , tubes and tires have a big weight reduction in total, the other parts are pretty easy to find to a fair price.

My bike in heavy setup weighs 21lb, with light tires and no tubes 20lb easy, when I got the bike I made it weigh around 18.5lb but parts just flexed to much.
