9? GT RTS-?

Anodonza

Retro Newbie
This is one of my current projects. Bought a $100 bike from a kindly old man who’d apparently built it for his grandson (although some people have suggested it was stolen) I bought it for the 12 speed group he’d put on it. And was planning to just chuck the frame. The knobby bit on the end of the top tube coming from the seat tube made me think it might have been a GT because I recognized it from the bmxs. I was right, and figured out it was an RTS from the early 90’s so decided it was worth saving and trying to restore it to factory (or as close as I could) so far I have it sandblasted and am planning to just polish it bare metal and get some repro stickers.
Can anyone identify the forks? From pics I’ve seen they were probably yellow. Hoping this will help identify the year and full model.

Your frame is likely to be an rts-2 or 3 as it doesn't have a flat top tube cap that identifies the us built RTS, 1 or team versions. Shock also helps as unless and early RTS, the higher ones had a piggy back noleen.

Forks are likely to be rock shox quadra variants, my rts-2 came with quadra 10s, I upgraded to 21s which were yellow. That said the crown and dials look more like rockshox mag versions to me.

Thanks. I figured it was a 2 or 3 but didn’t know which. I read somewhere the little tube cable guides give clues too but did both the 2 and 3 have those?

I've had a few, my early rts-2 had normal guides and a rubber clip that bolted on via the shock bolt to route the cables. Others, including the higher end ones had the tubes.

What was the colour originally as that may help

The sandblaster guy said there was yellow paint underneath, but I’ve not been able to find any yellow ones on Google images so I thought maybe that was also a repaint.
