Interesting you are running a 30t cassette with 7803 group. Shimano state 28t max. I know that is dependent on the specifics of the bike but I take it there are no issues? And do you think it would handle a 32t without shredding the jockey wheel ?

You can change the cages to suit bigger cassettes

In my experience that’s only part of the story. The main issue is that the top jockey wheel is too close to the largest cog.
FWIW, re: total capacity (different but related) I have both road and MTB with 3x gearing and short cage rear mechs.
But going back to 7803, even though it is a triple group with a long mech cage, Shimano list 28t as the largest possible rear cog. Hence my original question.

Well I can answer that question, in this case of a 30t it’s working fine... although I can’t say if it would stretch to a 32.... when I get the frame back from BJ’s I’ll take some close-ups to show the clearance.
