Those wheels are coming up lovely. Do you polish them by hand or with a bit of mechanical/electrical assistance?

How did you go about getting all the corrosion off the eyelets?

This was just a quickie... not a proper Peachyfication.

1. Dipped in petrol.
2. Small fine brass wire brush (suede shoe type)to clean eyelets
3. Good scrub with a scotchbrite pad (& petrol)
4. Machine buff with course soap
5. Machine buff with a fine soap

Right… I’ve been spending far too long arsing about on the bumpy side of the fence recently with two staled projects, I need to get something on the road…
When I left it this Colstar just needed cables, chain & bar tape… so let’s crack on..

Ah, but first, I just wanted to sort out something that was annoying me… namely the length of the rear QR skewer.. I guess it was made for 130 or 135mm spacing and this frame I think is 126mm. The obvious thing to do is just cut some off, but then that leaves a raw edge prone to rusting, well that is unless you oil blacken the end…
This can be done quite simply and with little fuss, but a few precautions are probably wise, first I use a glass container to put my engine oil in and I make sure I’ve got a fire blanket at hand (much better to smother an oil fire than blast with an extinguisher)
Get the tip as hot as you can, preferably cherry red, then simply quench in the oil, I fumbled a bit with my phone taking the picture, but you get the idea…




Next “tip” (although I think I might be just late to the party on this one) :roll: That is using a chain gauge to help get a chain the correct length and hold it in position whilst closing the chain… I’ve only just come across this and it worked superbly, I can’t believe I haven’t done it before! :facepalm:


So, here she is, road worthy and ready for a run out tomorrow, but not “finished” because if I like it, it will get a full re-spray… perhaps Gold,, or maybe matching the 105 colour..

Bar end plugs aren’t missing... just the wrap was a little tardy...better now :?

I desperately wanted to test out the Colstar today, so when the rain backed off to just mildly moist, we dashed out..

And I wasn’t in the bit disappointed, I’m not sure what I was worried about but this bike felt so good..

In comparison to the Majestic, unsurprisingly its like chalk & cheese, at 23lb & 10 oz, the Colstar is over 3lbs lighter than Madge, and with 73 degree angles and a 40” wheelbase compared to 72 & 43” it was very sprightly in the corners… the Shimano indexed gears of course were a joy to operate sequentially going uphill compared to the friction lever last minute guess on the Majestic.
I’m not so sure about the seat position yet, I’ll take an allen key out with me next ride and try a few different places.
