52-56 Road Bike for under £250 (London pick up or delivery)

Hi,
I'm after a road bike for my brother. Like most people at the moment he just needs a bike to get from A to B, so he's not very picky (and also doesn't understand much about bikes!) Ideally I think a 10ish year old aluminium road bike would be perfect for him, but I'm open to whatever (steel bikes, single speeds).
Max budget is £250, but preferably would like to do it a little cheaper than that. Perfect size would be around 54, but again have some flexibility with that.
We're both based in London so can pick up here, or am open to posting, if people are able to do so OK at the moment.

I know this is an old posting but did you find a bike ? I’ve been royally mucked about for weeks by a potential buyer ,I’ve an alloy/carbon Litespeed Antares with Campag 10 speed that measures 52-54 depending on how you do it ,in London ,cheers Stef
