Hello I want to build a 29r for commuting on and riding over the chase
I would like a single front chainset but gears at the back ,is there a groupset on the market for this ?
What wheels can sombody recommend that arent to pricey

Any chainset you can bolt a single chainring to is applicable for the front. Best use a single speed specific chainring as it has no shifter ramps and taller teeth so will less likely throw the chain. Some form of chain guide to keep the chain on would also be useful, look at DH bikes/jump bikes/trials for these.
As to the rear a 12-36T 9 speed cassette exists from shimano as does a 10 speed which with a long cage rear deralier would give you all the gears you'd ever likely need.

Merlin Cycles have got some brilliant 29er disc wheels (stans 355 ris on XT hubs) for about £150. The front hub is 15mm thru axle but you can use the Mavic QR adaptors which work well.

cheers guys ive ordered the tubing today so will start collecting the parts ,I think i might go for those Merlin wheels
