27" Question

Hi All.

A question on the retro 27" wheels (etrto 630) - are they still alive?

I.e. Would I regret building a set of 27" wheels because there's no more tyres being made for them? Or is it just the case of solid supply of limited options from modern manufacturers?

Thanks.

I have a few set's of used 27" alloy wheels and loose rims
And never had a problem obtaining tyres , yes limited choice but people like SJS Cycles have them available

I'd love to be telling every roadie I see that "mine's bigger than yours"

@biggs682 - do you know if SJS stuff is old stock, or the tyres are still being manufactured?

With a bit of luck the bike industry will be resurrecting 27" in a few years to make all of them 700c frames redundant. I'm just trying to be ahead of the game.

As far as i am aware it's not old stock but ask them to be sure

I bought some new SCHWALBE HS159 for my Falcon from Spa Cycles, but they seem out of stock in most places atm.

27x1/4 are readily available and still manufactured by Schwalbe, Panaracer, Continental and several budget brands. Rims are still manufactured by Kinlin. 27 x1/8 and 1 are still made by Panaracer. Any shop with an accoubrmt with the relevant distributer will be able to obtain them for you.
