20mm axle conversion

hi all,

a friend of mine asked me to do some work on his bike last night, which i was more than happy to oblige him.

the forks he has are simply awful. Zoom gordo 660. very simple, spring, no damping, just greased stanchions with horrid seals that dont seal.

anyway, they have a 20mm axle. wheel has a novatec hub, so im on the hunt to replace the forks for him.

so, the questions are, is there a conversion kit for a novatec hub that converts it from 20mm straight through axle to 9mm QR? or, is there a decent low cost alternative to the zoom gordos?

do you know the model number of the hub?

There's this site (in the USA) which lists all kinds of adapters and replacement axles for Novatec hubs:http://www.bdopcycling.com/hubs-mtb.asp

Knowing what exact hub your friend has and what adapter or axle is needed, you may be able to track one down from a UK supplier.

As for the forks, well, if you could convert to 9mm q/r axle then that would open up a lot more choice of more budget forks, as there doesn't seem to be anything worth considering in 20mm axle and the same price range as the Zoom forks.

Are 20mm thru axles not wider than standard QR anyway?
Converting to QR wouldn't fit between QR forks.
Correct me if I'm wrong.

Re:

Only way to find out is to compare. I have some spare qr spindles.
I'll get the hub details and check that website out. Thanks for the help:)
