This is Missy Giove's 1997 Volvo Cannondale Super V DHF race bike. This has been a 'unicorn' of sorts since it never sold to the public and was the first version used by dream team: Myles Rockwell, Kim Sonier, Kenichi Nabeshima, Oscar Saiz and Team Mechanic Steve 'Gravy' Gravenites.
Ahead of their time, these bikes came with 1.5" headtubes with custom anglesets, various swingarms to modify chainstay length and slacker head angles for DH racing. The DHF uses a Virtual Pivot design and shares the same suspension curve to VPP examples we have today. I sourced this from a former rep involved with the team, as a frame only, with many issues...namely missing the multi-drive crank system and front/rear suspension. Many would argue to hang it as a museum piece, however I plan on restoring with era specific parts and letting the creativity flow on the cnc machine.
Cannondale created this towards the end of season for her upcoming race in Kaprun where she placed first!
Back in the 90's, Missy was a huge inspiration to all, in both racing and other competitive sports. She always greeted with a smile, had amazing stories and was very generous handing out race swag!
Such a cool piece of race history. Let the project begin!!!
