Just recently got into this whole retro MTB thing and found a 1997 Specialized Rockhopper Comp FS A1 on FB Marketplace for a steal! It was from an original owner who used it as a mountain bike for only a handful of times and then decided mountain biking wasn't for him. He then used it for a road/exercise bike for a few years before hanging it high up in his garage where it stayed there untouched for a couple decades. Everything was in near-mint condition. It had some Specialized Nimbus tires on it which I've replaced with Sim Works x Panaracer Volummy 26 x 2.3. I also got the cockpit changed to Rivendell Tosco Bars, ESI Grips and changed it to Shimano click shifters with new cables to make it all fit with the sweep back handlebars.
Only planning on using this in the city to comfortably cruise around in and run errands with. Trying to figure out what kinda racks / baskets I can fit this with.
It's got a Marzocchi XC700 front suspension so I'm a bit limited there. However, shocks seem to be fully rigid and locked up. It has a 1-6 dampening adjuster where "6" is supposed to be the lock-out position but theres absolutely no movement regardless of what the dial is set to. Anyone have any ideas on what the problem could be? From my understanding if it was leaking then it would just be very soft?
