Following on from my thread in the 'Retro MTB Chat' section, here is my almost complete '97 Cinder Cone. I love it! :D

(Original thread: http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewto ... highlight=)

Its still a work in progress but should be a rider very soon. I think the custom decals worked out really well. I was unsure about the forks but now they are done I really think they work. Hope you like it. I do. Alot :)

Popped in the LBS today to see if my front wheel is ready, the saga continues... They still cant get the right rim

The fork decals were made by Gil_m to my requirements. He sent me a couple of proofs (98 SID) and I had a play using MS Paint then sent them back to him for printing. I basically did a cut and paste from the Kona seat-tube badge and added the leafy bits to the Rock Shox logo. The idea was to get the forks to match the frame nicely.

The Forks are '98 SID's with 2000 SID XC internals. The shafts need a little modification so the 98 air pistons will fit properly. This gives me 80mm travel with adjustable damping and saves a few grams too as the damper assembly is lighter. I also got a new red anodised damper adjuster from a French fork spares website. Its for a modern SID but fits the older model perfectly. Looks much better thsn the black plastic one. They need a bit of a fettle before they are ridable. If it dosent work out (though it should) I still have the original internals.

Some more random pics....

holy moly  I love it - you did a great job on that bike, so far - waiting to see it completed. Colours are also matching to each other. bravo.

Great looking bike. Love the attention to detail ;)

BTW, your rear disc brake rotor looks backwards to me.
