1996 Giant ATX 990 Original Spec, 3 Owners, Low Use.

#GIANT BIKE TART

Dirt Disciple
The time has come to have to thin down my collection due to losing my job in engineering from all this covid 19 business and my employer having to close up due to a lack of work. First on the hit list is my 1996 Giant ATX 990 20.5" original spec bike. I've owned it for around 4 years and only ridden it twice as I want to preserve it's condition and it needs the forks sorting out with replacement elastomers or a spring kit due their age. Other than that it is in amazing nick for a 23 year old mtb which would have normally been ridden to death and worn out and had loads of parts changed. I bought the bike from Exeter cycles who sold the bike originally and took the bike in as a px when the owner wanted a more modern Kona. The shop's owner kept the bike in his personal collection for sometime until he decided he had too many and put it up for sale on ebay and I purchased it. The bike has all of it's original parts other than the rear wheel qr and replacement brake blocks although I have the original worn lx cartridge brake blocks and will include them with the bike. It has been fitted with some profile design bar ends but other than that is completely stock. It has an xt rear derailleur and lx groupset , Mavic 220 eyeleted rims in great condition, rock shox judy xc forks which look mint but as mentioned need the elastomers sorting, a noleen rear shock, Tioga psycho k/TT skin wall tyres, tioga dh style elongated saddle which is in mint condition. The frame has some marks from use as to be expected but is in great shape with no dents or damage, just chain slap chips and a few small scratches which I have tried to show on the top tube/down tube. I have put yellow tape in the usual cable rub areas to prevent them getting any worse. The drive train has seen minimal use and still looks really great but could do with a degease maybe but I left it as was to preserve its originality. The bike will make a great addition to anyone's retro collection and a sound investment as it will keep it's value now and probably increase with a little work which mainly just involves a little tlc and time. Happy to answer any questions and happy bidding on this great bike.

Re:

Good luck the sale, that's a nice looking ATX - in far better condition than mine! If it had been smaller i'd be all over it.
Sorry to hear of the circumstances surrounding the sale :( Lets hope you achieve a decent price :)

FYI however - it is a 1996 model so you may wish to edit your ad. As you say though it does look to be very original, though the saddle is an addition.
Here's the link to the '96 brochure for you;

Thanks for the kind words and the info on the year correction, bit of a reluctant sale but it won't be too painful as I have too many bikes for the space I have already and this one is in such great original condition I didn't want to ride it too much and risk getting damaged, plus the forks needed doing and with other builds and life getting in the way as they do, I never got around to sourcing the parts. Spotted a guy in the states selling SRP spring replacement kits for Judy forks for £50 ish all in so will be ordering at least 1 set as soon as I can raise the money, for another pair of Judy forks I have that need restoring. Hopefully this bike should do fairly well with it's condition and some parts alone being pretty much barely used and rare. Just wait and see........ good luck to all who are interested and feel free to ask anything or for more pics of anything specific.......
