I picked up this lovely, if a little rusty Pine Mountain a good few months ago (for peanuts) and kept it in the garage. But as my other projects near completion, I need a new one.
So I plan to build this one up using, as best I can, period parts, but not catalogue correct (plus the slick tyres are likely to stay):

Spec so far:
1994 Marin Pine Mountain
Frame: Tange lightweight DB custom
Forks: Marin Rockstar

Saddle: original Marin PM saddle
Seat post: 93 Marin Lite
Seat Clamp: Control Tech purple non QR

Bars: Marin Ultra Lite
Stem: Marin Lite
Headset: Ritchey Logic
Bar ends: Marin

BB: Shimano UN55

Pedals: DMR V12 Mag (new)
Crankset: Deore DX MT60
Chain: KMC X8
Cassette: Shimano HG 41 7sp
Rear Mech: XT 7 spd (M735)
Front Mech: XTR triple
Brakes: 93 Shimano Alivio Canti’s
Levers: Deore DX MT63 (NOS) 2 finger
Shifters: DX thumbies
Cables: Clark’s

Rear rim: ‘93 Araya VP20
Front rim: Weinmann Zac 19
Front Hub: Acera X M290
Rear Hub: ‘93 Exage
Skewers: Halo non-QR purple
Tyres: Tioga Pshyco K front and Onza Dan rear

Pump: LifeLine performance (very good)

Edit:- bits I need:
- replacement bar ends and bottle cage?

Quick update:
- New 122.5mm UN55 BB in (previous was too short)
- Deore DX Cranks (MT60?) polished
- Deore DX MT63 levers
- Deore DX thumbies fitted but not connected
- Tioga copy unbranded pedals
- Schwalbe City Jet all round
- Ritchey Comp saddle (looks nice but a bit new?)
- Trans X seat QR purple, very used
- Trans X rear QR skewer purple, new

Hope you all like it, it’s certainly taking shape.
Not weighed it since the cranks but was at 8kg, aiming for 10.5 which is around or just under catalogue weight (which would have come with STI and LX / XT mix).
Actually the 94 catalogue had no listed weights, 93 was 10.9kg and 95 10.5kg with quite a change of components such as Whyte and Titec rather than Marin Lite

- Cabled the rear mech
- swapped the cantilevers over for “Alivio” 93 as the Tektro ones didn’t want to work, think the springs are gone.
- Fitted the chain.
- swapped the bar ends for some silver Onza L bends. The Marin purples need reanodising for sure.
- removed the bottle cage as it was also scruffy
- added grips
- weighed it.... 11.0kg :( and no front mech yet

Wonder what I can do to get 500g off?
I have some XTR cranks... and fancied an XTR rear which saves 50g.

Will add a photo later...

- Cables all done, brakes working reasonably.
- No front mech still
- Rear not indexed
- pedals are pretty terrible, and need clips
Went out for a very short test-ride, lovely :D

Just a few finishing touches then an almighty clean :)
Might throw my hat in for BOTM :)

Final form:
Derailleurs all indexing and shifting well, I gave the shifters a good lube and of course fresh cabling.
I’d forgotten how easy thumb shifters were to operate, I quite like them! I have an M952 XTR Rear mech to fit but seems the wrong era, and the XT mech works really well, so...

Lovely bike, fast light and nimble, rides lovely too

Should be around 10.5-11kg
