1994 Diamondback Ascent Saddle

Retro Newbie
I recently got hold of a 1994 Diamondback Ascent which is in pretty much mint condition having been ridden once and then being sat in a garage for the past 27 years. I think the only non-original parts are the cables and the handlebar grips.

Part of me was reluctant to ride the bike as it had remained in such good condition for so long, but bikes are for riding and so that’s what I’m going to do. The only change I’ve made to it is to change the original Avenir Vigor EX tyres with some Schwalbe Billy Bonker tan walls, purely for personal aesthetic preference.

However, maybe due to solely riding a road bike for the last few years, I find the Avenir saddle to be pretty uncomfortable after a relatively short ride. Can someone recommend a good modern saddle, which might have more of a road saddle feel while also complimenting the look of the bike?

Cheers
Mike

I have an equally well preserved 89 Ascent EX, was reluctant to ride it too but now it's my daily commuter, can't help with saddle but I tip my hat to your taste in paintjobs.

It’s a stunner isn’t it. The saddle’s grown on me too, probably through just riding it.

Just had a look at your ascent and it looks class. These retro MTBs are boss aren’t they

Yes, DB made some real beauties during that period, some genuinely iconic paintwork and the bikes are seriously underrated when it comes to ride quality. A lot of fun to ride and maybe because they are slightly less fashionable it's much easier to just relax and enjoy riding the hell out of them.

Great bikes.
