1993 Rocky Mountain Thunderbolt

Derrick (M.T) is right, can't use a stem mount hanger, has to be on the suspension for.

if the V's go on, it would only be temporarily last resort if i can't sort out the front hanger and i want to get some ride time on it. that won't be happening till spring so i got some time.

hmmm… i could always go front Vs and back canti, then the cable stop on the frame won't go unused.

i'm not aware of any aftermarket braces for the Marzocchi forks. :( at least i've not come across any. only for Rock Shox and Manitou forks.

btw stop teasing Derrick, you know i'm still waiting for you to split that Marin of yours! ;)

so i still haven't managed to figure out how to open up the forks to service it. :? it does hold air though. left it for a week or two, and compression still was fine with only a bit of oil having come out while the legs were laid flat. so maybe the slight oil coming out is normal??? should the fork be stored upright as lying it flat allows the oil to seep out more freely?

so instead for now i turned my attention to peel off the original decals for another scan and trace session. they were oil soaked and had yellowed the adhesive underneath.

now removed, sun fade isn't too bad, and eventually it'll help me position the replacement decals in the proper place. ;) won't bother with the warning label. peculiar that the areas covered by the clear portion of the decals faded more than the bare metal parts.

You've got the air caps out?

If not, deflate. Push caps in a bit.
Take out the wire ring.
Try inflating a bit and pull up /wiggle to get the caps out.
Pour oil out but keep in case needed.

To separate you need a long 6mm Allen key, about as long to where it stars it narrow.
Socket screwdriver extensions should help you get down in there...

that's my problem, i can't seem to push the air caps in to get at the wire ring. :? could it be seized? also seems there's been some over crimping on the stanchions by the crown. that might be also making stopping me from pushing it down. :(
