I've been meaning to add this one up here for a while now. This is my 1993 Rocky Mountain Hammer. I bought it second-hand in a suburb of Toronto when I was in grad school, somewhere around 2003 or 2004, I think. It was completely stock when I bought it, but the headset was shot and the bars were bent. So those parts were the first to be replaced. Initially, the bike was my year 'round commuter. In Toronto, my commute was rather short, only about 6 or 7 km each way, but the winter riding really wreaked havoc on the poor frame and much of the parts. So, I slowly replaced parts as they 'died'. Then in 2006 we moved to Seattle where my commute was much longer (~25 km each way). The wet grime was so bad I was going through a full set of brake pads almost every 6 weeks, and the rims on the original wheelset were almost worn to paper thin strips. It was in Seattle that I found my first m900 bit. I bought the rear mech that is still on there now from CL for $25. Fast forward to 2014, and the bike has now been reverted back to its proper MTB glory. Build spec below. The only difference between the pics and how it sits now is that the grips are now dark grey. Last summer I considered a respray for its 20th birthday. I thought I'd miss the patina though, so I just dremeled off the old rust and mixed some automotive paints to sort of match the old paint. I still might get around to ordering some new decals for it... someday
