1993 Orange Prestige

I've just realised I have never done a post on this. This was my first 'good' mountain bike, bought the frame and forks second hand in May 1995(off of someone I still know) and rode it till November 1996 where I sold it on to a mate (I bought a Santa Cruz Tazmon), fast forward 19 years and I bought it back off him, over the last couple of years it's mostly been a display stand for an M900 groupset, recently decided to build it more like it was BITD.

But then I’m biased as I have a Prestige of the same year.
Purple/silver was the best colour imo.

Thanks jimo! What do you think of the ride? My rose tinted specs told me it was awesome, reality tells me it's long and low and feckin twitchy, especially when compared to my Explosif!
Agree about the colour being the best option.

I think the frame rides great! As for 130mm stems and narrow flat handlebars... Not so great, for me at least. But they can be easily changed if you're not 100% committed to the retro look and being period correct.

That looks great. Just finished exactly the same year, colour and size myself. Mine was stolen outside a bike shop back in 1993/4 (ruined my GCSEs!). I've built a replica of the bike I had and weirdly it's like I never lost it.

Jimo, I think you're right, it's the stem that makes it feel too long, I've been digging through my stuff and have found a 90x25º T-bone which should sort the position out, might look a bit funny though!

Been out on this this morning, finally got a stem that fits, looks right and isn't borrowed off another bike, it's still long and low but it's bearable, got used to it after a couple of miles! Refitted the XTR, It works so well and I bought it for this in the first place. It rides nicely now the position is better, just wants to go fast!
