1992 Rocky Mtn Blizzard - Bike auction find

It looks great with a white Syncros fork! My 92 Blizzard has the same paint job but has the white Tange Struts (I need to find some time to restore and post it up!). Yes, there are definitely less of the black/white ones around so you are lucky to find one!

Unfortunately there are no public databases to search old Rocky serial #s. But Rocky Mountain may still have some old records, and there's some discussion on Rocky serial #s here:

My 92 Blizzard has a T9108xxxx and my 91 Blizzard has a I9011xxxx. Likely YYMMXXXX format for frame production.

If you can only keep one bike, I'd keep the 92 Blizzard - it's a classic rigid bike to have in the quiver. Sorry, but the Kona ain't anything special...yes, it might be more comfortable on the trails, but these are 2 very different bikes a decade apart. If you decide not to keep the rocky, I'm sure there would be a few people on the forum happy to take it off your hands! Heck I'd love that syncros powerlite fork for mine! :)

That is the 1992 paintjob shown in the catalog,
...

It also has the aftermarket/later style stem as opposed to the rocky specific model with flat top cap.

It's a 1992 model Syncros stem and would be the Syncros stem fitted to a 1992 Blizzard. The first year of this design.

*before you mention the catalogue picture, ignore it. They are dressed in 1991 gear for the most part and not how they would actually have come.

Re:

values in the frame, Syncros fork and stem. everything else could probably be tossed/replaced if the condition of the shifter/brake levers, bar and partial view of the stem from that one close-up is any indication of the condition. kind of a hodgepodge of parts anyway it looks. bar and post aren't Syncros, and the bar itself has been installed the wrong way with the sweep facing forward instead of back. agreed that fork is probably off a Nimbus. perhaps left over as i don't think many were sold or survived as i've not seem many around.

Good to know. Catalog photos predate availability on the bike shop floor so it makes sense that some things changed by the time bikes were shipping to dealers.

Personally I think there's no competition - ditch the fake RM :)

+1

Nice find

Absolutely in a different league to the Kona in my eyes - Kona's are for people who cant find/afford Rocky Mountains...

That's utterly beautiful too, what a great find, congratulations! :D

lol. Somehow I feel this group is just a little biased. ;)

Maybe I can keep a separate suspension fork to switch out when I need a little added cushion. Do any of you do this? I've never ridden a rigid fork before so please do excuse my ignorance.

Absolutely, what type of riding are you doing and where (I am familiar with lower mainland). Get an appropriate era Mag 21 and, you could easily sell the syncros for more than the cost if you wanted to, but you should consider rocking the rigid for a bit, personally, I don't know how one can live with only one bike. I have 10, or something like that.
