Just got this from my bro'in-law,
IMG_20240628_181001.jpg sitting in his garage a decade or 2.
an 18" 1992 M800 BotE? I'm confused about the black graphic element.

Let me know if I'm wrong and I'll update.

Frame no has 18 size and 92 as date.
Original kit is xt - m092 STIs rd-m735, and rabbit ear cantis.

There's little wear on ritchey vantage Rims, disappointing exage 7sp hubs, recent alivio chainset.
Bonus: profile eyeball adjustable barends, wtb devo ti saddle.

We will probably clean it up and turn it into a fun retro-commuter at 450, but if anyone wants to take it as is for £350 and do something fun with it, let me know.

That seat tube looks quite long to be a 18" BotE, the geometry on the rear stays is also not correct for an M800, easiest way to tell is measure the BB from the ground up - with two tyres on - the BotE BB height from the ground should be around 13" (give or take with those tyres) - on a 18" BotE the seat tube length will measure approx 16" and not 18". (Possibly a 1992 M700 - they came in that Formula Red and Graphic, also with an 1 1/4" fork)

The Black Graphic is pictured on the M800 BotE in 1992 page (16) within the catalog, also the M700 on the next page (17) shows the Graphic in Red at the side, the bike above may have been a late 1992 as it has a detached alloy seat clamp, early ones just had a QR. (I think)

(My guess its a 1992 M700 18" - measure the centre of the BB to top of the seat tube, also the BB height from the ground up)

Looks like same bike as mine. I’ve always thought mine was a 92 M800 but I didn’t know they did an M700 in same paint. What’s the tell tale signs on the rear stays @stephan?

Hi @Dface, its quite subtle, however all BotE M800's that year had a 13" Bottom Bracket height and all other M Series MTB's that year had a 11.63" Bottom Bracket height, therefore the seat tube on the BotE M800 was shorter and the rear stay on the BotE M800 was in more of a horizontal position to accommodate the shorter seat tube. If you refer to the above Cannondale Catalog and put the BotE M800 and M700 picture side by side you will see this.

All measurements are on page (12) of the above catalog, only way to really check is get out the tape measure.

Here is @mattblake2 measuring his M800 BotE frame: https://www.retrobike.co.uk/threads/need-help-identifying-my-cannondale-frame.477459/#post-3560640

Now I could be completely wrong, like I say the only way to confirm is with a measure and refer to page (12) of the catalog above. :)

Stephan.

I’ll do some measuring! 👍🏻

@bikeworkshop Hello, have you decided to keep the bike? Stephan.

The bike is now at the shop being serviced and sorted out to sell as a retro town bike.
It measures 20 CtoT, but has 18 in the size digits of frame number shown here indicating cannondale sizing 86-92, version 2

https://vintagecannondale.com/info/serial_numbers/
It's 18 bb to top of toptube.

Toptube length a little under 56
@mk one - I actually thought that also, however its not a BotE M800 20" it will be a standard M Series 11.63" Bottom Bracket height frame. The 20" BotE M800 Frame has a larger head tube.

Only way is to measure the frame correctly.

It's the lower bb though so it's the standard 3.0 frame.

Xt st-m092 rf+units are working like new - over 30 years old and little care ever shown them😍 IMG_20240629_185404.jpg

"It's the lower bb though so it's the standard 3.0 frame"

Those frames are actually comfier to ride than the BotE, the BotE rides high, actually so high a lot people don't like them as you feel like you need to jump off the bike to put your foot down.

It must be a M700 with that colour from 1992, it will make a fantastic retro town bike. (Don't loose the 1 1/4" headset)

Hope to see it when you get it finished.
