Last year I acquired an early Fat City Yo Eddy frame with the usual metal termite issue! Wasn’t really looking for a project but right now I’m made up I took it on.
I have quite a few classic MTB’s built up with 26” wheels and period components. Fancied doing something a little bit different and also because this needed a new seat tube decided to go quite a few steps further by removing the canti bosses, triple cable stops, rear seat tube roller and adding a PMW post mount disc bracket and hose guides. The frame had a bit more room added for 27.5 wheels too. Also ended up having a custom segmented fork built using Columbus fork blades, dropouts and Willits style IS mount. The paint was already decided in my mind.
The build is a mixture of US modern stuff. Paul Components , White Industries, Velocity and a Shimano/Praxis/Wipperman Drivetrain. I guess this will certainly offend a lot of retro folks but to be honest if I had not done this it would have been another wall hanger. First ride out proved that the beautiful handling of a classic YO could be enhanced further with the bigger wheels, disc brakes and modern drivetrain.
