1991 Ibis Uptube tandem with road kill

Ibis was one of the largest producer of tandem bikes back in the 1990's and the Uptube was their top model. This one was made for the owner of Cane Creek and features road kill opossum graphics. It has 26" wheels and originally came with both drop bar and flat bar setups. With the 60 tooth chain ring, 1.25" slick tires and drop bars, this would have made a great road bike.

I resigned of 54T ring in my tandem...
How strong You have to be to use 60T?
Is XT front mech is working correct with 60T?

Shifts OK in the stand but I suspect it might be a little hesitant under load?
