Hey all another bike was purchased from gumtree , its in as new condition and cleaned up a treat!
It is large in size and has V Brakes with Shimano Rapidfire pods fitted.
This bike has got a sticker on it holographic type behind the top vertical bar
"DATATAG" this bicycle has been Datatag approved.
Can anyone shed some light on this please?

Data tag was originally used for motorcycles and consisted of a chip(normally inserted into the foam of the seat) and a puck like chip normally covered in glue then slid inside your frame or somewhere discreet

They then thought they would try a cheaper version for bicycles which had the glued up puck popped into your frame and the stickers

The idea being that if the bike was stolen and then found ... Plod should be Able to contact the last registered owner.

The take up certianly on bicycles was so poor .... I would be surprised if any stations even still have the equipment

Hi

I worked in a shop that sold Apollos back in the early-mid '90s. My memory is pretty hazy, but I think the MTB range back then was:
- Peak
- Summit
- Alpine
- Aspen
- Kosciusko
- Himalaya
- Everest
- Comp
- Expert
- Team

I'm sure there was a Matterhorn model too but I can't remember where it sat in the range... sorry it's nearly 20 years ago!

The Alpine model you have would have originally retailed for about $300-350 AUD. Your's looks like it could be a '97 model by which time Apollo had introduced the 'Raceline' brand for the higher spec models, 'Radius' for the really cheap adults and kids bikes, and was replacing some of the model names with letters and numbers such as 'LDX2.0' in the $500-$1000 range with aluminium and full suspension frames.

I do have a soft spot for Apollos. My first bike was an Apollo II 12 speed back in '83.
